Helping Sangatta Flood Victims, the AMM ERT Deploys a Team to the Sangatta Disaster Site

East Kutai – Flooding struck five villages in the Sangatta area of Kutai, East Kalimantan. The AMM Emergency Response Team (ERT) moved quickly into the field to give assistance to affected communities on Sunday 20 March 2022.

Heavy rain hit the Sangatta area for three days in a row. The East Kutai Regency BPBD (Regional Disaster Management Agency) recorded 2,477 houses and 5,245 households affected. The flood also claimed one life, with water depths reaching 50 centimetres to 2 metres.

"Saat mendengar adanya bencana di wilayah Sangatta, kami segera berkoordinasi dengan pihak Basarnas SAR BPP dan melakukan pembagian kru ERT kami untuk turun langsung ke lapangan guna membantu korban bencana di sana, air juga masih tinggi di beberapa titik, sehingga bantuan evakuasi harus segera dilakukan.", said Supiansyah, Field Coordinator Team Leader.

AMM, as a subsidiary of PT Putra Perkasa Abadi, responded quickly by carrying out evacuation and assessment at the disaster site. The AMM ERT also brought rescue equipment including inflatable boats, life jackets and more, along with logistical aid and medicines to be distributed to 4 evacuation points: Gang Mutiara in South Sangatta, Gang Rawa Indah in North Sangatta, Gang Seruni in North Sangatta and Gang Mawar in North Sangatta.

The aid is intended as an expression of AMM's care and as an effort to speed up the recovery process for residents of Sangatta. Monitoring and coordination with Basarnas were also carried out as a form of preparedness for water levels that could rise at any time should the rain return.
