In Line with the Sustainable Development Goals, PPA Wins Awards at the Mine Excellence Award 2025

PT Putra Perkasa Abadi (PPA) has again underlined its commitment to driving excellent, efficient and sustainable mining practice, winning awards at the Mine Excellence Award 2025. The awards are run by the Society of Renewable Energy (SRE) in cooperation with Shell Indonesia, in recognition of mining companies judged to have delivered innovation, operational efficiency and a real contribution to the energy transition and sustainable development.

The MineXcellence Award is a platform for highlighting best practice in the mining industry, from operational efficiency, resource management, post-mining innovation and local workforce empowerment to decarbonisation and the renewable energy transformation. The event aims to create shared standards that move the mining industry towards a more responsible and sustainable direction.

The Mine Excellence Award 2025 ceremony was held on Wednesday, 8 January 2026 at Ecodeck Plataran, Central Jakarta. It was attended by the leadership of national mining companies, government representatives and cross-sector stakeholders with an interest in the future of Indonesia's mining industry. Among the government officials and industry leaders present were Dr. Siti Sumilah Rita Susilawati, S.T., M.Sc., Secretary of the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources; Farishadi Rukandi, VP Sales B2B & Mining at Shell Lubricants Indonesia; Farista Andi Kusuma, VP Technical at Shell Lubricants Indonesia; and Hutomo Kadir, Head of B2B Marketing at Shell Lubricants Indonesia.

At the event PPA presented several of its programmes and won the title of Mining Champion (1st place) in the Operational Efficiency and Resource Management category for its Sanitation Water Innovation from a Former Open Pit Void programme at the PT Borneo Indobara jobsite.

Under the programme, PPA captures rainwater collected in the void and treats it for use as an alternative source of sanitation water that is fit for purpose, sustainable, effective and efficient for around 7,000 employees.

Through the programme PPA has restored the land's function so that it is safe and productive while reducing environmental impact, via void reclamation and water conservation. The programme aligns with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). It has also delivered significant cost efficiency.

PPA also earned the title of Mining Master (2nd place) in the Renewable Energy Transformation and Decarbonisation category for its Green Light Mining programme, transforming mine lighting through solar-powered additional lamps on the PC2000 excavator.

Under this programme PPA harnesses renewable energy — solar power — to run additional lamps on excavators. The programme not only provides lighting 2 to 10 times brighter and more even for night-time mining operations, but also delivers total decarbonisation of 6,996 kg per month and significant operational cost efficiency, in line with SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).

Judging was carried out by Rudhy Hendarto, S.T., Senior Mine Inspector at the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources; Hendra Sinadia, Executive Director of the Indonesian Mining Association 2024–2025; Andi Erwin Syarif, Expert Council member of the Indonesian Mining Professionals Association; Dr. Ir. Prantjanita Novi Hartami, S.T., M.T., I.P.M., ASEAN Eng, Mining Lecturer at Trisakti University; and Aditya Pratama, Chair of the Communications and Government Relations Committee at APBI-ICMA.

PT Putra Perkasa Abadi's achievement across two categories at the Mine Excellence Award 2025 reflects PPA's consistency in running responsible mining operations, putting efficiency first and adapting to the demands of the global energy transition.
