PPA ERT ON A HUMANITARIAN MISSION FOR THE SUMATRA FLOOD & LANDSLIDE DISASTER

PT Putra Perkasa Abadi (PPA) Group deployed its Emergency Response Team (ERT), under the coordination of ESDM Disaster Response, to several strategic points on a humanitarian mission to the Sumatra flood disaster areas from 27 November 2025.

Eight ERT members reached the flood site in the Woyla Barat area of Aceh on Friday (27/11/2025). The ERT was also deployed to Bireuen, Aceh.

The team sent comprised 1 coordinator, 6 rescuers and 1 medic. Their rescue work covered evacuating residents trapped by the floods, setting up a public kitchen, and handing over emergency relief in the form of food supplies.

The PPA ERT also went directly to the disaster site in Batang Toru, North Sumatra. This time 10 PPA ERT members were deployed, made up of 1 leader, 5 SAR team members, 2 paramedics, 1 logistics member and 1 heavy equipment operator. The team in the field distributed logistics, staple food, mineral water and baby nappies.

In Batang Toru District, South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, the deployed team opened a medical post and carried out trauma healing treatment for 50 children affected by the floods at the Sopo Daganak post in Aek Pining.

The team repaired the crossing bridge connecting Garoga Village and Anggoli Village. Besides repairing the bridge together with residents to restore road access for evacuation, aid delivery and the movement of people, the team also continued the search for victims in Garoga. Meanwhile, in Batu Godang Village, the team carried out a road equipment survey and distributed staple food.

The deployed team conducted search and rescue (SAR), bridge construction and road clearing together with residents, handed over a range of logistical needs, food supplies and staples, mineral water and baby nappies, opened a medical post and a public kitchen, provided health education, and ran trauma healing activities for the children affected by this disaster.

The humanitarian mission continued to several other points: Pulau Lobang Village, Kampung Duren Village, Simatohir Village and Labo Uhom Village.

On Friday (5/12/2025) the team was also deployed to Agam, West Sumatra, to continue the humanitarian mission for those affected.

Emergency Status

The PPA ERT's arrival at the sites answered the emergency response status for Aceh Province in force from 28 November to 11 December 2025, issued by Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf on Thursday (27/11).

As of 1 December 2025, the floods had brought down the bridge serving as the transport link from Banda Aceh to Medan. The floods also toppled transmission towers, cutting off electricity and telecommunications networks.

As of Thursday (27/11), the Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA) stated that the floods had claimed 22 lives and inundated 20 of the 23 regencies and cities in Aceh Province.

The floods also struck 13 regencies and cities in North Sumatra, claiming 83 lives with 81 people missing and affecting 1,902 families in the area, according to a statement from the National SAR Agency on Friday (28/11).

The same floods hit 13 regencies in West Sumatra Province. Based on data from the Padang SAR Office as of Friday (28/11), the floods caused 22 deaths while 12 victims were still being searched for.

Cyclone Senyar

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency stated that the heavy rain behind the floods was caused by Cyclone Senyar. As a result, peak daily rainfall in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra reached 800 mm, as recorded by BRIN's Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre. That figure is very high compared with Indonesia's monthly rainfall average of 180 mm.

PPA hopes the floods can be resolved swiftly, that the missing are found soon, and that those affected are given strength and patience, recover quickly and return to normal activity.
