PPA Sends an Emergency Response Team to the Mount Lewotobi Eruption Disaster Area

As an expression of its care for communities affected by disaster, PT Putra Perkasa Abadi (PPA) sent an Emergency Response Team (ERT) under the coordination of ESDM Siaga Bencana to the area affected by the Mount Lewotobi eruption in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. The move was a rapid response to an emergency affecting thousands of residents, including those forced to leave the danger zone because of volcanic activity.

Since arriving at the disaster site on 13 November 2024, the PPA ERT — five personnel: two rescuers, one medic, one logistics officer and one support officer — has been actively providing humanitarian assistance to victims. The team works together with Basarnas, the local government and other parties to make sure the urgent needs of the displaced are met.

The assistance provided by the PPA ERT includes:

1. Medical aid: the PPA ERT provides medicines and carries out health checks for the displaced, particularly the elderly, pregnant women and children, who are vulnerable to illness in emergency conditions.

2. Clean water: a 5,000-litre water tanker has been sent daily to meet clean water needs at the shelter posts, one of the locations with the largest concentration of displaced people.

3. Basic needs of the displaced: the team also distributes mattresses, blankets, food supplies, stoves and gas tanks to support the daily needs of the displaced.

4. Trauma healing: trauma healing activities are run specifically for children to reduce the psychological impact of the disaster. With a friendly, educational approach, children are invited to play, learn and share stories in a positive atmosphere.

5. Evacuating residents: working with Basarnas, the PPA ERT also helps evacuate residents from the danger zone around Mount Lewotobi.

PPA President Director Joko Triraharjo said sending the ERT to the disaster site is part of the company's core values, which place human safety and wellbeing first.

Kami berharap kehadiran tim kami dapat meringankan beban para korban dan membantu mereka untuk bangkit kembali," said Joko Triraharjo.

Continuing Support Through Garuda Rescue Nusantara

Sending the PPA ERT also reflects the company's disaster response capability, honed through Garuda Rescue Nusantara, the disaster response training facility PPA established in Balikpapan. The facility trains not only internal teams but is also open to the public with a range of emergency response training programmes such as Structural Fire Fighting Rescue, Road Accident Rescue and Collapsed Structure Search & Rescue.
