Providing Free Cataract Surgeries, PPA and Adaro Support a Healthier and More Productive Future for Tabalong

PT Adaro Indonesia, together with PT Putra Perkasa Abadi (PPA) Site Adaro, continues to strengthen its commitment to improving the quality of life of communities in Tabalong Regency, South Kalimantan. This commitment was demonstrated through support for a free cataract surgery program benefiting 131 people in Tabalong.

The program, part of PT Adaro Indonesia’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, was carried out in collaboration with the Tabalong Regency Health Office, Yayasan Amanah Bangun Negeri (YABN), PPA, and several of Adaro’s business partners. The program was officially launched by Vice Regent of Tabalong Habib Muhammad Taufani Alkaf on Monday (August 3, 2026), at Muara Harus Community Health Center (Puskesmas).

The program targeted communities in Muara Harus District, Mabuun Urban Village, and Muara Uya District. By providing accessible cataract surgery services, the program aims to help beneficiaries regain clearer vision, enabling them to carry out daily activities, work, and contribute productively within their families and communities.

In his remarks, Vice Regent of Tabalong Habib Muhammad Taufani Alkaf expressed his appreciation to Adaro, PPA, YABN, the Health Office, and all parties involved in bringing healthcare services closer to the community.

“This year, Tabalong Regency received support for a free cataract surgery program covering 131 eyes in Muara Harus District, Mabuun Urban Village, and Muara Uya District. Hopefully, the quota for Tabalong can be increased next year,” said Habib.

Also attending the event were Tabalong Regional Secretary Hj. Hamida Munawarah, Head of the Tabalong Health Office Ahmad Baihaki, and YABN Section 1 Head Zulfa Anita.

The cataract surgeries under the program utilized phacoemulsification, a modern surgical technique that uses ultrasonic waves to break up the cloudy lens of the eye. The procedure allows surgery to be performed through a smaller incision, with a relatively shorter procedure time and recovery period.

CSR Department Head of Adaro Indonesia, Iwan Ridwan, said that access to healthcare services is an important factor in supporting communities to lead healthy and productive lives.

“People living with cataracts have the right to access cataract surgery services that are accessible and within reach, enabling them to see clearly again, stay healthy, and remain productive,” said Iwan.

As one of Adaro’s business partners operating in Tabalong, PPA also supported the implementation of the program. Department Head of Production at PT PPA, Fachrul Latuconsina, said that PPA’s involvement reflects the company’s commitment to working in synergy with Adaro to deliver programs that create tangible benefits for communities in and around its operational areas.

“PPA is committed to continuing to support Adaro’s programs that provide direct and sustainable benefits to communities. Through collaborations such as this cataract surgery program, we hope the beneficiaries can return to their daily activities, work, and live their lives to the fullest,” he said.

For the beneficiaries, the program holds significant meaning. Herman (65), one of the beneficiaries, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to undergo cataract surgery, which had previously been difficult for him to access.

“Thank you for providing this free cataract surgery. I am very happy because I can now see more clearly,” said Herman.

The free cataract surgery program represents a collaborative effort between Adaro, PPA, the local government, YABN, and various stakeholders to support the development of the Tabalong community. Through this collaboration, Adaro and its business partners remain committed to delivering programs that not only address current community needs but also contribute to building healthier, more independent, productive, and prosperous communities.
