The Director General of Mineral and Coal Sends Off PT Putra Perkasa Abadi's ERT to Compete at MERC 2025 Australia

Jakarta, 21 November 2025 — The Directorate General of Mineral and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) today formally sent off the Indonesia Garuda Rescue Nusantara team, the Emergency Response Team (ERT) of PT Putra Perkasa Abadi (PPA), to compete at the Mining Emergency Response Competition (MERC) 2025 at Langley Park, Perth, Australia.
The send-off, held at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources office in Jakarta, was led directly by the Director General of Mineral and Coal, Tri Winarno, S.T., M.T., and attended by PPA Operations Director and Chair of the GRN Supervisory Board R Teguh Saptosubroto, HCGA Director Fathul Muin, and the Chair of the Garuda Rescue Nusantara Foundation Adri Thanada. PPA's participation in MERC 2025 continues from the team's appearances at MERC 2023 and 2024, where PPA brought home a total of five international awards.
At MERC 2025, PPA's Emergency Response Team will compete in eight categories: Confined Space Rescue, Emergency Response Team Readiness, Fire Fighting, First Aid, Hazmat, Road Crash Rescue, Vertical Rescue and Incident Management. All are designed to test the team's readiness and capability in handling a range of emergency scenarios to international standards.
In his remarks, the Director General of Mineral and Coal affirmed that PPA's participation in MERC represents Indonesia's commitment to keep raising national mining safety standards.
"Junjung terus semangat untuk menang, namun jangan lupa bahwa tujuan utama keikutsertaan dalam event ini adalah pembelajaran yang didapat di MERC agar dapat dibawa pulang untuk memperkuat kapasitas keselamatan di Tanah Air. Kami ingin tim bertanding dengan semangat mewakili Indonesia, belajar, dan membagikan ilmunya kepada industri pertambangan Indonesia," said Tri Winarno.
The Director General also expressed his appreciation to PPA for its commitment and consistency in building the capacity of mining emergency response teams.
"PPA telah membuktikan bahwa komitmen terhadap keselamatan bukan hanya slogan, tetapi diwujudkan melalui pembinaan, pelatihan, dan pemberangkatan tim terbaik untuk berkompetisi serta belajar di tingkat internasional. Ini dapat menjadi contoh bagi seluruh pelaku industri pertambangan di Indonesia," he said.
The Chair of the Garuda Rescue Nusantara Foundation and PPA's MERC 2025 Team Manager, Adri Thanada, also spoke about the team's readiness for the international competition.
"Kami membawa misi belajar dan bertukar pengalaman dengan para praktisi internasional. Apa yang kami dapatkan nanti akan menjadi bekal penting untuk memperkuat kemampuan ERT di industri pertambangan Indonesia," said Adri.
The departure of PPA's Emergency Response Team is an important moment in the effort to strengthen national mining safety culture, and a symbol of the synergy between government and industry in raising readiness for emergencies.
The PPA team is scheduled to depart for Perth on 22 November 2025, with the MERC 2025 competition running on 28–30 November 2025.
