The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Recognises Tim Indonesia Garuda Mine Rescue

Tim Indonesia Garuda Mine Rescue, represented by the ERT of PT Putra Perkasa Abadi (PPA), successfully won a number of awards at The 13th Mining Emergency Response Competition (MERC) 2023, held at Langley Park, Perth, Australia on 24–26 November 2023. The achievement is a source of pride not only for Tim Indonesia Garuda Mine Rescue, but also for Indonesia as a country that keeps making its mark internationally.

Tim Indonesia Garuda Mine Rescue won a range of awards at MERC 2023, among them the 1st place trophy in Vertical Rescue, 2nd place in Hazmat Rescue, 3rd place in Fire Fighting & Breathing Apparatus Skill, and the Team Spirit Award trophy. This success reflects the dedication, skill and high fighting spirit of every team member.

Present to welcome Tim Indonesia Garuda Mine Rescue were the Director of Mineral and Coal Engineering and Environment / Head of Mine Inspectors (Dirtekling Minerba) at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (KESDM) Sunindyo Suryo Herdadi, PT Putra Perkasa Abadi (PPA) President Director Christianto Setyo, PPA Operations Director Joko Triraharjo and Pertapindo Chair Sri Raharjo.

The award from Dirtekling Minerba KESDM was presented directly by Sunindyo Suryo Herdadi, who expressed his pride at what Tim Indonesia Garuda Mine Rescue had achieved. He also affirmed KESDM's support for the team's participation in other international competitions.

"Sebagai latihan kita juga untuk ke kompetisi yang lebih besar. Paling tidak teman-teman sudah memiliki pengalaman secara mental bertanding di kelas internasional. Tidak ada hal lain dari kami di kementerian selain ikut bangga dengan prestasi rekan-rekan sekalian," said Sunindyo.

Besides the competing team, awards were also given to the coaching team, the team managers, and the companies/organisations that supported Tim Indonesia Garuda Mine Rescue at MERC 2023.

MERC is a competition that has been running for 13 years in Australia, joined by Emergency Response Teams (ERT) from a range of mining companies, including the world's largest such as BHP, Rio Tinto, Newmont and Regis Resources.
