The PPA Himalaya Expedition Team Successfully Conquers Mera Peak

The Putra Perkasa Abadi (PPA) Himalaya Expedition Team set foot on the summit of Mera Peak in the Himalayas, Nepal, and raised the Indonesian flag and the PPA flag on Friday (14/10/2022) local time. Climbing the 6,476 masl summit completes the PPA Himalaya Expedition's mission to conquer two Himalayan peaks. Earlier, on 1 October, the PPA Himalaya Expedition Team reached the summit of Island Peak at 6,189 masl. The achievement makes PPA the first mining contractor in Asia to send a team to conquer two Himalayan mountains.

The three PPA climbers — Yuzzri Angga Karunia, Yuli Adi Gunawan and Andi Nugroho, all PPA employees — reached the summit of Mera Peak two days behind the target schedule because of bad weather. "Setelah turun dari puncak Island Peak, kami terkendala cuaca buruk. Selama satu minggu tim menghadapi hujan salju dan cuaca berkabut dalam perjalanan menuju Mera Peak" said Andi Nugroho, the expedition team leader.

At some points the Himalayas were hit by avalanches that put climbers in serious danger, as on Mount Manaslu. An avalanche from that mountain swept down onto the Manaslu base camp in the Himalayas, Nepal (2/10). One person was recorded killed and 13 others injured in the disaster.

Amid that unsettled weather, the PPA team pressed on towards the summit of Mera Peak. On arriving at Mera Peak high camp on Thursday (13/10) at 15:00 Nepal time, or 16:00 WIB, the team resumed the climb at 03:00 in the morning. "Alhamdulillah saat ini cuaca cerah dan kondisi tim juga dalam keadaan baik, sehingga kami yakin bisa mencapai puncak Mera Peak esok hari," Andi said during an Instagram live from Mera Peak high camp on Thursday (13/10) local time.

The climb to the summit of Mera Peak began at 03:00 local time. The PPA Himalaya Expedition Team crossed heavy snow-covered terrain with strong winds and temperatures dropping below -15°C throughout the ascent. After six hours of climbing, the expedition team members finally stood on the summit of Mera Peak. "Syukur Alhamdulillah kami dinaungi cuaca cerah saat pendakian, pukul 09:00 waktu Nepal tim PPA Ekspedisi Himalaya berhasil mencapai Summit Mera Peak. Saat ini angin masih berhembus kencang dan suhu pagi ini -10° celcius, puncaknya malam tadi suhu dingin mencapai -15° celcius. Terimakasih berkat doa teman-teman sekalian, kami telah berhasil menyelesaikan misi ini" said Andi.

The PPA Himalaya Expedition Team's success in conquering two Himalayan summits — Island Peak and Mera Peak — completes the mission set by the company. The expedition was carried out as an expression of the company's vision and mission, following the company's vision for 2023 of becoming the second-largest mining contractor in Indonesia. "Perjalanan menuju puncak tidaklah mudah, penuh dengan tantangan dan rintangan.
